On the weekend October 28-30, 2016, the History In Your Hands Foundation will play host to the 4th annual Chicago International Map Fair at the Chicago Cultural Center.
The fair will begin Friday evening, during the last week in October, following the annual IMCoS International Symposium and 50th Anniversary of the Kenneth Nebenzahl Jr. Letures, with a Preview Night Cocktail Reception. The reception will consist of a premium open bar and hors d'oeuvers in the G.A.R. Rotunda and Hall of the Chicago Cultural Center. All guests will enjoy early access to the material on display at fair. This is a great opportunity to meet all of the dealers, view, and purchase some quality antique maps, atlases, prints, and globes before the weekend crowds arrive the next day.
The fair will be held in G.A.R. Hall, on the 2nd floor of the Chicago Cultural Center and consist of approximately 35 antique map, print, globe, and book dealers from around the world. Spend the day or weekend browsing and/or purchasing antique maps, globes, atlases, books and prints. Aside from browsing the antique maps, the fair will also feature a four part lecture series and a children's workshop geared toward introducing the wonder and joy of cartography to a generation growing up in a relatively paperless world.
The fair is located on Randolph Street, just off Michigan Avenue, across the street from the iconic Cloud Gate, or Bean statue in Millenium Park. After you've enjoyed the fair to its fullest, you can take full advantage of the various shopping, restaurants, museums, architecture / history tours, and nightlife this world class city has to offer. So come on by and bring the family, friends, or loved ones for a fun filled and educational weekend at the 4th annual Chicago International Map Fair.
