On the weekend of September 27 - 29, 2013, Harlan J. Berk, Ltd will play host to the first annual Chicago International Map Fair at Primitive Gallery.
The fair will begin with a Friday evening cocktail party featuring a premium open bar and hors d'oeuvres by the historic Berghoff restaurant est. 1898. Enjoy the ambiance of Primitive Gallery with music by a local jazz trio, while you browse a number of antique maps provided by various dealers for a silent auction to benefit the local charity Growing Home. The top two floors of Primitive will host the 1st annual Chicago International Map Fair Saturday from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm and Sunday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. The fair will consist of over 20 antique map, globe, and book dealers from across the U.S. and Europe. Spend the day or weekend browsing and/or purchasing antique maps, globes, atlases, books and prints. Aside from browsing the antique maps, the fair will also feature a three part educational series with lectures by some of the antiquarian scholars of the Chicago Map Society. On Saturday, there will be two tours of the Newberry Library complete with transportation to and from the fair. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to see their world renowned map collection and tour the historic building. Seats are limited as each tour will consist of no more than 20 people, so get your tickets while their still available.
The fair is conveniently located at Primitive, just steps away from downtown Chicago, so once you've enjoyed the fair to its fullest, you can take full advantage of the various restaurants, museums, architecture / history tours, and nightlife this world class city has to offer.
